Double Springs School house, Floyd, Virginia.
This school house was renovated and restored in 1996 and continues to be open to the public. This schoolhouse, in operation until the late 1950s would hold around 20 students at any given time, including my great grandparents (my great grandfather completed the eighth grade). These students ranging in age would study topics of arithmetic, spelling, penmanship, geography, and drawing. It is likely that this small school house is the last of its kind in the United States.
*NOTE* -The composition journal entries were NOT a feature of the Double Springs Schoolhouse, these documents are sourced back to Galax High school, however these entries were written at the same time the school house was in peak operation (1910-1920).
